UK fans have been waiting years for a Blu-ray release of Madhouse and Eureka! It’s finally being released as part of Eureka Entertainment’s Classics range (available from 22 June 2026) as a limited-edition release with an exclusive collector’s booklet.
Starring Vincent Price in his final film for American International Pictures (AIP), the co-production with Britain’s Amicus Productions brought Price and fellow Gentleman of Horror Peter Cushing together for the first time, alongside Price’s Dr Phibes Rises Again co-star, Robert Quarry, and is an absolute treat for fans of classic British horror.
In a role that channels his horror screen persona, Price plays American actor Paul Toombes, whose trademark character Dr Death made him the King of Hollywood Horror until the gruesome unsolved murder of his fiancée caused him to have a breakdown. Twelve years later, he gets a second chance at a comeback with a new TV series based on his Dr Death character, written by his old friend, Herbert Flay (Cushing) and produced in London by his old foe Oliver Quayle (Quarry). But when the bodies start piling up, seemingly at the hand of his Dr Death character, Toombes’ sanity is tested once again.
Directed by Jim Clark, who would go on to become an Oscar-winning editor (The Killing Fields), Madhouse is ripe for re-appraising for its proto-slasher leanings, and this UK Blu-ray release is perfect to start that conversation.
